Things like putting the shopping into the back of the car at the same time telling the kids to stop fighting and the bag slips giving rise to an acute attack of muscle spasm in your neck – always stay focused when you have anything in your hands. We are big fans of gyms but it is a place you need to be concentrating whenever you have a weight in your hand or are completing exercises e.g. sit ups, push ups. There is always a right way and a wrong way to do things One of the more common ways to injure your back is just picking the weights up off the rack. Gyms are great social places – which is terrific – but once into an exercise or with a weight in your hand it is full focus.

It is surprising how often we hear from patients ” I have been working hard in the garden all day shoveling raking and pruning and all I did at the end of the day was just bend down to pick up the last leaf and my back gave way”.
